Microsoft Copilot: What It Is and Why It Matters

Session overview

This opening session of the Copilot Summer Series focuses on building shared context before moving into features or productivity use cases.

Rather than starting with “how to use Copilot,” this session explains:

  • What Microsoft Copilot actually is - and what it isn’t

  • Why work context and permissions matter

  • Why Copilot provides a safer place to begin experimenting with generative AI at work

  • How to think about responsibility and guardrails before expanding use

This session is intentionally foundational. The goal is clarity, not speed.

You’ll be asked for your name and email address. We’ll only use this to send you the recording, session follow‑ups, and invitations to future sessions in this series.
No spam. No pressure.

Key themes covered in this session

  • Copilot as an AI orchestration layer - not a standalone tool

  • The difference between public AI tools and Copilot inside Microsoft 365

  • Why Copilot respects existing permissions and identity boundaries

  • How Copilot Chat provides a safe place to start without a separate Copilot license

  • Why guardrails enable confidence instead of blocking adoption

Supporting resources referenced

  • Microsoft Copilot adoption guidance

  • Microsoft 365 data, privacy, and security documentation

  • Copilot Chat and enterprise security overview

What’s next in the series

Session 2: Guardrails and Getting Hands‑On with Copilot

The next session builds on this foundation and begins working more directly with Copilot features, workflows, and practical use cases. While continuing to reinforce where guardrails matter and why.

Each session in the series is registered separately.

Prefer a deeper, in‑person discussion?

We’re also hosting an AI Foundation Workshop. An in‑person, interactive session designed for leadership teams who want to step back and think more broadly about AI, risk, and responsibility before scaling use.

The workshop focuses on:

  • Where AI is already showing up in organizations

  • Hidden risk many leaders aren’t aware of

  • Practical guardrails that actually work in real environments

About the Copilot Summer Series

The Copilot Summer Series is a five‑session conversation focused on using Microsoft Copilot intentionally and responsibly.

The series starts with shared understanding and responsibility, then moves progressively into:

  • Everyday workflows

  • Practical use cases

  • New capabilities

  • Thoughtful expansion over time

Each session can be attended individually, though the series is designed to build.
